Vernon Road Trip

Last weekend we did a road trip to Vernon to visit Naomi & Alex. The drive there and back went really well with the girls and we didn't have to endure screaming or crying for too long, yay! We left on Friday evening at 6pm and thankfully traffic was smooth so we stopped in Chilliwack for dinner, and then as we took off again, Nora stayed up until about 9:30pm before she slept the rest of the way (same for Lily). On the way home, we left after lunch so that Nora would nap, and both her and Lily slept for 3 hours! So we actually made it all the way to Chilliwack for dinner, so then the rest of the drive home wasn't too long and boring for Nora (Lily slept the whole way home!).

It seemed like we did so much that weekend! On Saturday we visited Trav's Auntie Lorraine & Uncle Drew for a BBQ to celebrate Andrea & Drew's birthdays, as well as to meet the newest addition, Euan (who just turned 6 weeks!).On Sunday we checked out Davison Orchards where they have a very family friendly set up! There was a little farm where we could feed the goats, sheep, donkey, chickens and rabbits. Nora thought it was pretty cool feeding the goats, her favourite animal was the donkey, who she named Ears (from one of the books she reads), so she kept calling out to Ears to come out of the shed. Poor donkey was very hot that day and just wanted some shade :)
They have a cute little 'town' set up where you can buy fresh fruit and veggies, homemade goodies and best of all, fresh or frozen pies! Delish! We couldn't resist buying a box of cherries, peaches and taking home a delicious apple pie! They've also set up a little playground that looks like the farm & orchard, it's all very cute and so much fun for Nora... especially when you end it all with ice cream!

On Monday we checked out Vernon's farmer's market. It's a nice big market and the stuff is so fresh and reasonably priced! We couldn't buy too much b/c we'd be travelling back home but we did manage to buy whatever could fit in the cooler. Nora enjoyed the bouncy castle out of the whole lot as well as her first taste of yummy kettle corn! Mmmm mmm.

After that we went to a beach on Kalamalka Lake so that Nora & Trav could take a quick swim. It's such a beautiful lake... super blue-green when you drive alongside it between Vernon and Kelowna. Nora loved it, especially being thrown in the air!

It was really great visiting with Naomi and Alex... Nora loved the extra attention and was just so at home with them. She enjoyed blowing bubbles on their deck and getting to know their dog, Brody... she became more and more comfortable going up to him and eventually patting him. And Lily was just a super baby... hardly fussed and when she did, was easily comforted and fell asleep really well.

An awesome trip!
