Maui Wowee

The past nine days have been filled with sunshine, relaxing, beaching and sightseeing. We went on our 'babymoon' to Maui seeing as this will probably be our last vacation together as a couple. Before you know it, we'll have strollers, diaper bags and baby in tow too! Yikes and we could hardly handle the luggage we brought with us! This was our first trip to Maui and it was really awesome. We lucked out with a great rate at the Westin Maui (through Trav's detective work and priceline). The hotel is beautiful, located on the west side called Ka'anapali and has awesome service and GREAT food. What was even more sweet was the fact that our dollar was higher than the US this time round... yeah!

I could go on and on (or maybe I do) but here are some highlights from our trip:

On the road to Hana (east side of Maui), we stopped at the Keane Peninsula where waves crashed against the black black rock. The road is highly recommended in all the tour guides and yes, while it can be beautiful... I must say, "This is not sightseeing, this is life threatening!". The road is insane, there are apparently over 600 curves and 54 bridges over 34 miles. Trav was a star driver but I think I caused more stress than it should've been. The views were nicer when you weren't driving! I'm a scared-y cat like that! :)

Trav's favourite thing to do each day was take in the waves! He rented a boogie board for the week, bought some fins and went loose. The waves each day seemed to get bigger and bigger, the final day was insane - almost 8 feet high! Swimming in the ocean is nice and all but with the sand always in your suit, the rocks, the big undercurrents, I stuck with the pool :)

We took in a Luau at the hotel one night and enjoyed a 4 course traditional Hawaiian meal with hula dances, tribal dances and fire dances. Totally cool!

This is along the north coast of Maui - similar road to Hana in that it's also bendy, curvy and very-close-to-the-edge of the cliff. (Warning: objects in foreground may appear larger than they are!)

Kihei, further south along Maui's west coastline had a great sunset. We took a snorkeling trip out that way earlier in the morning and then spent the rest of the day in Kihei. There sunset was really really amazing!

We had a ton of fun with our SLR camera... Trav really got the hang of using the manual operations, taught me a little and from there we went crazy (bought a few filters, another memory card and was so so soooooo close to buying a new lens too, tee hee). Here's what I typically saw throughout the trip... ;)

And then of course, my favourite... our sunset from our balcony on Sunday night (this was after a full day of rain, then the sun came out to set for a picture perfect view!)
