Lily: 14 Months
Lily's almost coming up on her 14 month mark... and what a cutie pie! She's learning to be a real ham for the camera and loves to give you a big smile when you say, 'Cheese Lily!'.
I'm sure I've said this before but Lily is definitely the more curious one of the two girls at this age, crawling around everywhere, climbing up and down on things, getting into stuff... got to keep such an eye on this one. Not like her sister, who used to just sit and play with the toys or books around her... so with all the adventure, Lily's definitely had more bumps and falls than Nora ever did... including getting a tiny hairline fracture on her skull after falling off the bed! This was no ordinary bump, no, in fact, the doctor at BC Children's emergency said it's one of the largest hematoma's he's seen in a while! Can you imagine the amount of guilt and 'ugh' I felt especially since it was under my watch. Anyways, since Lily was acting fine and responding well, the doctor said there was no need for any overnight stays. We had a check up with the neurologist a few days later for a follow up. Turns out Lily had a subgaleal hematoma (swelling between the skull and scalp), but no damage to the brain, and with time, the swelling came down and no further risks. So, Lily just had to live with a decent size bump for her birthday! :) Phew... kids sure are resilient and both girls did so well through the whole ordeal.
Other milestones...
Lily's walking! She still likes to crawl between places (so much faster) but she's definitely trying to walk more. It's been really cute watching Nora encourage Lily to walk to her... finally captured it on video, enjoy!
Lily understands a lot... nods when we ask her if she wants something (anything with food is welcomed with a full head and body rock), shakes her head no to certain questions (especially, 'ready for your nap'?), and grunts when we ask if needs to go and poo, turns her head in the right direction when we ask her where certain people are. She's babbling a few more words... 'ba' for book and boo, 'ohwa' for owen, 'na na' for food and especially banana. Lily especially loves looking out the window at the park and having her full on babble conversation letting us know people are in the park or 'mom / dad, I wanna go out'. :)
I'm really loving watching how the girls interact. They definitely play to entertain each other, making one another laugh so much... it's so contagious and so much fun listening to them giggle together. Of course, Lily loves to do what big sister Nora does! Sometimes Nora wants Lily to do everything she can (sit on small chairs, hold cups of water, climb couches, etc), so definitely some policing to do to make sure everything's safe but it's nice to see Nora wanting to include Lily on it all. Don't get me wrong, there are definitely times when Nora will have none of Lily getting into everything or climbing on top of her, but it doesn't take long before Lily giggles or tries again to tickle Nora and all's forgiven and both end up in fits of laugher. Phew, thank goodness for not holding grudges and quick distractions :)
Ahh fun crazy times... all worth it.
