2 kids + 1 wagon = Roadtrip!
For the May long weekend, we went to Courtenay to celebrate Bill's 60th Birthday Weekend! Before Lily was born we didn't know if we would be able to make the trip with newborn and who knows how I'd be feeling for a long drive etc... but I've been feeling really good, Lily has been so calm and easy so far, and Nora always loves seeing the family, we thought we can't not go! And so happy that we did, it was a ton of fun and really, we had way more hands to help us out over there than if we stayed home :)It was great, everyone got to meet Lily and hold her lots. Nora's really become quite comfortable with everyone now and just so much fun to see her playing so nicely (sometimes directing people what to do and how to do it). Maya and Angelina were awesome cousins, looking after Nora, picking her up and entertaining. Trav even got to play a round of golf on Saturday, first time in 3 years (pre-Nora time)!
The only big challenge was sleeping at night with the 2 kids in the same room. We thought Nora would want to sleep in the playpen in Grammy's room and it started off well, but she woke in the middle of the night wanting us, so that night it was a bit up and down for her, together with Lily's every 2 hour feed and diaper changes and not much space in the room to walk around, left for a very tired mom and dad the next morning :). But luckily with so much family around, we got lots of help during the day to entertain Nora and hold Lily. Yay for family! The next night, Grammy kindly offered their bedroom with more space, so that helped in terms of getting around (esp for when we had to change and feed lily) but we both were always so worried anytime Lily made a peep that it may disturb Nora so we tried to work really fast in changing her diaper so she wouldn't cry out... and luckily by the last night... Nora slept through and Lily only woke once to feed and Trav and I got a good chunk of sleep in between :)
Overall, not bad for taking a trip with a 2 week old and a 2 year old! I know we probably would never have done this when Nora was 2 weeks old... so it's good to know we've reached a new comfort level with handling a newborn :).
