6 Months

Nora celebrated her 6 month mark with solids yesterday! Big step... she's been eyeing us as we eat or drink, so finally she had her first try at this crazy thing called food! The very first attempt was a no-go, fail, lets-try-that-again-later kinda ordeal. First, I don't think she liked the fact that we put her in the bumbo seat, secondly, the milk was too cold and then thirdly it was too runny. Anyway, this is her very first reaction to it all...

So then I decided to wait until after her first nap to try it again under much different circumstances... sat her in the corner of the couch, let her play for a bit (she likes to pick things up around her and chew on them), then I made the cereal in front of her using breastmilk brought to room temperature and as she got interested in what I was doing, then I slowly gave her the spoon. Much better process! Phew... it was really cute seeing her figuring out what was going on... so soon enough it was all done and she wanted the spoon...

and then wanted to eat and lick the bowl clean... good job Nora!
Other things we've noticed over the past month...

  • She can sit up on her own! She is fairly stable, few wobbles here and there but generally works her core pretty well
  • When Trav comes home and calls for Nora, she turns towards his voice, sees him and then big smiles
  • She is very proud of herself when she stands up from sitting - not standing up on her own of course but with us holding her hands she knows to push off her legs and use her arms for support
  • She isn't too verbal yet - few babbles, few giggles but you gotta work hard for those giggles! :)
  • Just loves sitting in front of the washroom sink watching the water come out of the tap and fill up in the basin
So that's her half year update... I can't believe it's already been 6 months... looking forward to many more fun things that she's just soaking in!

Happy 6 months Nora! Maddy reacted the same way to solids too, and now there's no getting between her and the food. Enjoy this new thing called 'food' Nora. Fun times are just ahead for you.
